Encourage Kids to Draw

From my experience, one of the best way to let your kids enjoy drawing is by being part of the activity. I always tell my kids that they are very good in drawing. Sometimes, we make a deal. If they could draw something special for me, I offer myself to put some colors on the drawing to make it more beautiful. They will feel very excited and motivated to finish a complete drawing then. They just can't wait to see how the black and white drawing turn into a colorful artwork.

Magic Tree

I requested Haikal to draw a tree for me and he did it in the blink on an eye. Since the paper still got empty spaces, he added a bird nest with few eggs inside. He explained to me that the bird was away for food hunting. Then I asked him to draw himself next to the tree. He gave a try but it’s not that easy for him, so he ended up with drawing his favourite balls.

So, this is Haikal’s magic tree. The magical part is that the tree produces a lot of beautiful flowers which later will transform into  colourful balls.

Mmm.. it's cool, isn't it? I like the idea which will help me to  save a lot of money too :)

Did Haikal Draw Everything By Himself?

Yesterday a friend asked me about  Haikal's drawings that I put on my blog. Did Haikal draw everything by himself? Well, absolutely not :) At Da Vinci, the teacher will teach him on the basic drawing techniques and assist him to complete the drawing within one and half hour. Once, Haikal was not feeling well during the class. The teacher held his hand and they painted the drawing together.

Did Haikal learn something from his weekly drawing class at Da Vinci? The only way to know it is by doing a few tests at home.

Haikal drew a lorry and taught mama how to color it.

Haikal drew and colored a duck.

Little tortoise by Haikal.

Haikal drew a lorry but his father said it's more like a caterpillar.

I think he did learn something from Da Vinci and I'm happy that he enjoys drawing so much.

Lovely Collection

I'm not frequently update my blog this month but our drawing activities are still going on. Every week, Haikal will bring home his new colourful drawing. Now, he also becomes a "teacher" at home. Who is the student? It's me hehehe. He is such a strict teacher and his brother, Anas, just can't stand it. Now I know that Haikal is good in acting too. He acts just just like what his teacher does and repeats the same dialogues too.

It's A Rainbow!

A lovely rainbow by Haikal. He was not feeling well on that day. He got fever and lost appetite. But he was such a good boy. He requested to have some medicine and a blanket before lying on the sofa. Now, he's fine and starts drawing again :-).

Haikal Loves Mama

A big love for me. Thank you Haikal! I love you too, three, four,.....five millions. Your drawing is awesome!

Da Vinci Creative Kids

Haikal will turn 4 on 24 August 2012. His first class with Da Vinci Creative Kids was on 9 April 2012 where he learnt on how to draw a colourful ball. So far he has already attended five drawing lessons and I'm proud to say that his drawing skill is improving. I could see that he loves to play with colours.
Sketching and colouring all by Haikal without my observation.

Anas (the brother) admires Haikal's drawing very much, especially the smiling sun. Everytime Haikal comes back from the class, Anas will grab a pencil and start drawing too.
Anas was inspired by Haikal's drawing.

Anas choosing his favourite colour.
 Well done kids!

Happy Mother's Day

Haikal's drawing. Just after he came back from the class, he showed me this drawing and asked me, "What's inside the yellow box?" Hmm...

Anyway, the wish of "Happy Mother's Day" reminds me of my mother. Let me describe my mother in three words. My mother is...
1) Beautiful
2) Hardworking
3) Friendly

One day, if I'm blessed to have a daughter, I wish she would inherit my mother's beauty :-)

A Bird and A Flower

Tomorrow, there will be a wedding ceremony at Serdang. So, last Saturday, we planned to reschedule Haikal's drawing class, probably in the morning. But due to a few circumstances, we decided to let Haikal attending two classes continuously, with 15 minutes break in between. The first one hour, he paid full attention to his drawing... a flying bird. He was very happy and satisfied when his father bought him candies and a can drink.

The next hour was a bit challenging. The almost-4-years Haikal lost his attention and started to running and playing around the class. He was a bit bored and took a long time to finish his flower. According to the teacher, the drawing was not complete yet. But my husband knew that Haikal couldn't focus any more. We made a wrong decision and learnt a new thing about kid. So, no more two classes a day after this :-)

Last week Haikal drew a smiling sun. He looked more comfortable with the class and did good job as always.

Proud of You!

Haikal's first drawing class and he did a good job. I was waiting at home impatiently and keep on thinking how his drawing will look like. There's a knock on the door and Haikal just couldn't wait to show me his drawing. Wows... it was really beyond my imagination! Well done, Haikal! You did it very well. I hugged him tightly and kissed him… Proud of you, son!

Anas saw the drawing on the table and agreed that it was beautiful. Guess what, suddenly Anas took his pencil, drawing book and crayons… and started drawing!

A few minutes later, Haikal came and looked at Anas’s drawing… and said “The drawing is not good”.

Hmmm.. Haikal, Haikal! Soon, Anas is going to be as good as you, sayang!

Haikal and Lorry

That night, I was sitting next to Haikal while watching news in Buletin Utama. Haikal hold his blue colorpencil and started drawing straight lines and three tyres which perfectly formed a shape of lorry. He was not done yet when I shouted happily to my husband and brother. "Guys, come and have a look! Haikal draws a lorry!" Both of them rushed excitedly to see the drawing. Haikal was surrounded by us and still holding the pencil. Realizing that he was being watched by three pairs of eyes, he started to draw clumsily. Ohhh...

Well, next time we decide not to overshow our interests while he's drawing. We will pretend like nothing happens although we are very proud of his talent. We will let him develope his creativity and praise him after he's done with his drawing.

Ladybird

The name "ladybird" originated in Britain where the insects became known as "Our Lady's bird" or the "Lady beetle". That's written in the Wikipedia. Without this information, I still have no objection about the name. The shiny red color and the black polka dots make the beetle so beautiful. Let us do it this way.

The red and black beetle is beautiful.
Lady is beautiful.
So the beetle is a lady.

I guess, that's why it's called "Ladybird".. Ohhh..whatever!

Nemo Meets New Friend

Nemo : So, you're the star of the sea.
Starfish : Ermmm... Yess, it's me.
Nemo : Why don't you shine?
Starfish : I fell from the sky into the sea and the water caused short circuit in me..
Nemo : Ooohhh...

Let's Fly Together

I forgot to ask Haikal what's this drawing about. Fish? Aeroplane? Lorry? Errmm... I think one of them looks like a bird. Suddenly I remember an episode from Upin and Ipin series where the twins were playing kites with their friends. Haikal loves the part when a bird hit one of the kites. Both kite and bird fell on the ground. Upin and the gang rescued the injured bird and at last the bird was able to fly again. Nice story!

Haikal and Fish

Haikal drew a fish. Then he drew another fish...smaller one. He told me that the bigger fish was the mama (mother). How sweet!!! He put me into his imagination and that's how he expressed his love to me... I learnt a new thing. To create a meaningful drawing, always draw right from your heart.

Haikal and Dragonfly

Everyday I will try to allocate my time for drawing activity with my kids. They will request me to draw their favourite objects especially those related to heavy transportations like crane, tractor and lorry. The drawing should not be perfect. Two boxes with two circles will do to make them shout happily "It's a lorry!'. Easy right hihihi.. Believe me, although this kind of activity needs your patience, love and time, it's a fruitful one! Now my kid can draw a lorry by himself... I wish to upload his drawings in my next post. This is one of them...my almost-4-years-old Haikal drew a dragonfly. I'm very proud of him :-)

Encourage kid's imagination, creativity and confidence, that's what I'm doing. At the same time, I try to develop my creativity as well. My imagination should be better than Haikal. So I modified his sketch to make it a bit closer to real. So, here is Haikal's dragonfly with his mother's touch. Happy family!
